ALNMOUTH
"From St Cuthbert made Bishop, to friendly Franciscans in the Friary - lots of religious interests"

Looking toward the Friary at the entrance to the vilageInformation about the Friary (which was created in 1961) will follow. The Friars take an active part in village life ... but we do see the occasional look of surprise by visitors who suddenly see brown robed gentlemen walking to the railway station or shopping locally.
Visitors are welcome to visit the Friary and they are allowed to walk around the grounds close to the sea.

The village churchThe old church is now ruins on the other side of the river (see village history). There is a cross on the top of 'Church Hill' - a wonderful vantage point on any day with views over the estuary, the beaches and dunes.
The current church - built in circa 1876 - is in Northumberland street and I am sure the new lady vicar will give us information and times of services for you all.
For those coming for Christmas be warned - the midnight mass takes place either at Lesbury or at Alnmouth. Not both. The vicar looks after both churches and cannot be in two places at once!!!! However, it is but a pleasant midnight walk away whichever village it is.

There is the Old Wesleyan Chapel in Chapel lane, built in 1830.

The Hindmarsh hall was - for a short period - a temporary church. It was converted in 1859 into a chapel by Algernon, Duke of Northumberland due to the loss of the village church in a violent Christmas storm.
